Hi Colin

Did you see the article in the Coton Community News?

I'm under the impression that we'll have access in the next few months, but for the latest info the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/MadingleyExchange is a good source.

Has anyone else been wondering what happened to the promise of fast fibre broadband after the Madingley Exchange was one of the 6 winners of the Race to Infinity? There's conflicting information, depending on what site you look up... Dec 2011, then March 2012...possibly June...20MBS...40MBS...100MBS...FFTC...FFTP...but we are still on 1 or 2 MBS... Is there any reliable information on when it will be delivered and what speed? Such great hard work was put in by the Coton Race to Infinity team, though it appears that the suppliers are not following through, or are they...?

as also a resident of coton, i agree totally with DFTOcelot. i have never recieved a questionaire, nor has my brother (who also lives in coton), nor our next door neighbour, and just for the record we have lived here for over 41 years. also i notice that sara goodwood changes her arguement from traffic accidents to noise (any other angles you would like to try) when we all live next to the constant din of the m11, so what you going to do to rectify that? the fact of the matter is, that a few residents who live in the buzy areas of the village are not happy, and want to penalise everyone else, just because a small minority decide to drive thru the village far too fast. also to the comment about the village becoming a rat-run when we have problems with the m11 and a14, what makes you think that traffic calming measures would stop those cars still coming thru, you dont get a barrier you can put up and down? and 1 last comment, i read a small paragraph in the local parish magazine that quoted huge figures of people speeding thru the village (700 i believe), really, i think you would be pushed to have 700 cars go thru the village, or do you mean along polhill road, where the actual camera was situated, and not the village, scaremongering at its best.

A decision has been made.

"I wish to inform you of the proposed casualty reduction works on the A1303 at Madingley Rise.

In light of the injury accident record, we have been investigating the collisions between Coton crossroads and the American Cemetery, in order to develop appropriate engineering measures that will reduce the collision rate.

Between September 2006 and September 2011, 24 injury accidents occurred along this section of the A1303. Of these, 3 resulted in fatalities, 5 in serious injury with the remainder sustaining slight injuries.

There is a high proportion of loss of control and shunt type accidents on the east bound, Cambridge, approach. Heading west, leaving Cambridge, the predominant accident trend is for overtaking and loss of control. The remaining accidents show no particular patterns.

We have developed a scheme to address as many of the accident types as possible. The work will be linked to other surfacing works in the area to try and reduce the effect on the travelling public and kept costs as low as possible by combining works. These are shown on the attached plan.

It is anticipated that works will commence in February/early March 2012 as part of a scheme to be delivered by our colleagues in Whittlesford. It is estimated that the works will continue for 30 days.

I will update you further once dates have been confirmed, in the meantime, if you need any further clarification please contact me at the above address."

I used to buy Cydrax and Corona fizzy drinks, granulated sugar and other groceries from Mrs Whitehead's shop in the early 1960s. (She was Peggy Purse's mother. ) I was always very anxious for her safety when she mounted her 'sit up and beg' bicycle to go home, as she was so tiny and it was quite a leap for her to get onto the saddle.

Not sure when it was built, but the licensed pub records go back to 1841, my Gt, Gt, Gt, Gt, Gt Grandfather Richard Scott was the publican......it remained in the family, which became the Edwards by marriage. Around about 1896 it transfered to the Childerley family, though my Gt, Gt Aunt Jane Edwards married Simon Childerley. Judging by existing parish & county records I would guess The Plough was built in the early 1700's.

I was born in Coton back in 1960 and have watched it from slowly into this new look village. I feel pleased to be able to say that on the hole changes have been made in a sensitive and considerate way. New housing, which i live in, has not had a detrimentle effect on the village but I'm very concerned that the proposal to build (possibly) on the field beside the school or at the top of Silverdale Ave could cause huge problems for the school. The road through the village at certain times is already congested and plain dangerous when the kids are going into and coming out of school. Building houses in what is essentially the dead end part of the village, with only one way in and out will cause a major bottle neck. I have often wondered why no one has thought to create a bigger car park for the school by using that nieghboring field ? Also, will the school only take in children from the village or will the school then have to expand and continue to take children from the Newnham side of Cambridge ? The more I think about this the more worried I' m becoming, I don't want to become yet another "Nimby" but I don't think the position and size of this village is suitable for these developments !!!
